I'm the "original contributor".
I really don't care if you change this or other files written by me. My
english isn't perfect, so I like that others review my work and correct it.
I've wrotten "licence" because I've learned english in the british council,
so I use British english, but feel free to change to American.

since in British the noun is licence but in American it's license (and
contrariwise for the verb -- can't speak for other flavours of English!).
Unless there were a consensus to use one chosen form of English consistently
(which there isn't, not least because many of the contributors are
non-native speakers and write their own individual variant of the
language!), I'd just leave such dichotomous spellings as made by the
original contributor.
