There were elaborate discussions about this on the git mailinglist about
three months ago, I'll try and look up what the consensus was.

Well, I do know that I always ran it on a local SVN repo (when doing
huge imports).  So for Pike, either copy the repo locally using the
dumpfile, or use SVK to mirror the SVN repo, then run git-svn.
