Erm... is there a "clean" way to delete the old packages, when migrating
from the older solaris 11 release, to the new one?
Or is the best way a drastic
rm -r $PKG_DEST/publisher/solaris
before doing the download?
You don't need to do that, but it's up to you.
Unfortunately, we do need to :-}
People like to claim "disk is cheap", but it isnt when you have existing
legacy hardware you *must* use, and you're all tapped out of internal
disk space, with no larger size disk available! We cant afford to have 7
gig of old data laying around on that machine "just in case". sigh.
If you want to more easily minimise the set of package data you have to
have, then you should download the repository ISO files provided via My
Oracle Support.
Not only will the retrieval be much faster, but you'll get just the set
of packages needed for installing S11.1. systems.
Please note there is an additional set of packages needed if you want to
have a repository that supports upgrading S11.0 systems as well.
