I get some, let's say, interesting results:
./x00c -debug
does not give any additional output (I only expanded the PATH to get the
program to work). The screen output:
$ ./x00c -debug
*** PLPLOT ERROR, ABORTING OPERATION ***
plInitDispatchTable: Could not open drivers directory, aborting operation

I do not have time to check the definition of pldebug() right now. Maybe it is
a no-op?
