The disk might be encrypted or locked.  I forgot the technical term but if
it is what you have then you can no longer use the disk if it remains
unlocked.  This lock is activated by the BIOS such that it can not be used
in any other computer.  It is possible and it has been reported that the
BIOS can sometimes malfunction and lock you out from your drive. The only
solution is to use a a commercial software that can unlock it.  I have used
it before but I no longer remember the name of the software.  It is best to
try searching Google.  Most business laptops made by HP supports this
feature.
