Hi all,
I have a Western Digital 1TB usb hard disk and now I cannot access it anymore.
Thinking that the USB to SATA interface is defective, I opened the
case and pulled out the
SATA hard disk.
BIOS correctly identified the SATA disk but
dd cannot erase/write on the MBR.
TestDisk cant find any existing partition.

The disk might be encrypted or locked.  I forgot the technical term but if it
is what you have then you can no longer use the disk if it remains unlocked.
This lock is activated by the BIOS such that it can not be used in any other
computer.  It is possible and it has been reported that the BIOS can sometimes
malfunction and lock you out from your drive. The only solution is to use a a
commercial software that can unlock it.  I have used it before but I no longer
remember the name of the software.  It is best to try searching Google.  Most
business laptops made by HP supports this feature.
