I think it would be absolutely cool to have our very own distro. A different look and feel.

It would definitely take a long time to do though like they just said. Development, maintenance, testing and so on. A lot of manpower needed.

Like the other guy said " ubuntu and
Debian" distri already supports filipino locale, so whats the point of trimming??

Why exert an effort in something that is alreAdy available?

the filipino links that you stated can just be added to their current distri configured on a filipino locale? isnt that a lot easier and faster?

Yes, most Filipinos can understand Filipino (mostly Tagalog language) because most TV shows in the Philippines comes from Manila which is in Tagalog. So we can start with Tagalog. We will make moves and strategies in translation to make translation going like making tutorials how to translate, provide resources for translation, and invite all to join and help translation. Then we will decide about trimming ubuntu, which to remove and what to add to align to Filipinos computing and internet needs

There was an attempt years ago called Bayanihan Linux that was
done by ASTI. Sadly it didn't take off, for many various reasons.

To begin with, the Filipino language is an artificial language
borne of a collectivist desire for a national language (like what
the Malaysians have and what the Indonesians likewise attempted to
do also) supposedly to unite the various languages (not the
dialects myth as taught in schools) used by so many people... but
used as a core instead a minority language that's used mainly in
    the capital.

The links you wrote actually point out that its NOT the desktop
that you need localizing - it's more the content.

I was thinking of Linux desktop that is targeted to the Filipino
people. Like it has a Filipino feel and culture in it. Like the
desktop is designed how Filipino use the computer and internet.

Also a default chat app named gyachi for yahoo chat and skype
because Filipinos like to video chat their loved ones abroad.

It's like a distro that is sharing and updating information to
    all Filipinos.

We can share all websites that are targeted and useful to
Filipinos and configure in the browser as default bookmarks

You'd actually want the bloat of existing distributions and
applications as what you call bloat is also making the
desktop more functional and ready for more random hardware.
Not everyone is keen to wasting time making things work when
they have actual work to be done.

Ubuntu and its parent Debian already incorporates the Tagalog
locale, no need to reinvent the wheel.
