hi...i did a very stupid thing today. with the goal of closing security holes
and making our server more stable, i upgraded the kernel of our RH6.2 box,
which is co-located at infocom. *sigh*
thing was, i forgot we were using the MD drivers and RAID (mirroring) on its
two identical scsi drives. well, it seems that the MD drivers for kernel 2.2.17-
14 (take from rh6.2-updates) uses a different format or cant seem to understand
that of the MD drivers for the 2.2.14-50 (stock RH6.2) kernel. after reboot
(from a remote location), it said...kernel panic, unable to find root file
system.
is there a way for me to recover? i erased the lilo record of the previous
kernel, was too cocky..i suppose hehehe. i have a nasty feeling i may have to
say buh-bye to my data (may backup naman...pero sobra hassle), and just re-
install the darned thing. which means i have to travel to makati sometime
soon...and let myself freeze to death at infocom's server room (hehehe), while
waiting for that darned server to re-install?
any help would be appreciated. i was thinking more on the lines of booting to
single user mode...drop the metadisk at /etc/fstab...and just using one of the
disks...maybe the primary...just so that i have a working file system..and a
server at that. wut u think? i'm really desperate.
sheesh. what a way to spend holy week.
vince.
