Indeed. Some MS apps are unusable and buggy GUI apps. Microsoft tends to 
emphasizes more on the GUI interface than the underlying functionality. Linux 
apps start with basic core functionalities than the GUI interface/front-end. 
This approach may indeed make the Linux app a bit harder to use, but still, 
the Linux app is usable and functional, even if accessible through the 
command line interface or via scripting languages only.

Microsoft's undocumented APIs even makes it harder to figure out everything, 
because they invite you to subscribe to their "shared source initiative". 
Given the dire business climate and failing software sales for Microsoft, 
they may possibly use this "shared source initiative" as a revenue stream at 
the drop of a hat. There is no win-win situation with Microsoft technologies. 
We can't base our computing infrastructure on a company who was found guilty 
of monopolistic business practices by the US Supreme Court.
