Hi, Sorry for the cross-post but I think the mods will forgive me for this one.
While we are trying to decongest the main mailing lists of offtopic posts by redirecting them towards the other lists I just realized that not everybody knows of the page where these lists are itemized. For those who joined the lists via recommendation (or forwarded mails), the information you need is in http://plug.linux.org.ph/lists.html . Basic rules on deciding where/how to post: 1) Post newbie-type of questions to the newbie mailing lists. Examples of these are "how can I install program xxxx", "how do I connect to the internet?", etc. These questions are usually answerable by a short trip to google (*hint, hint*). Flaming newbies is not common in this list. 2) The plug mailing list (aka the main technical list) is for questions that is highly technical and specific in nature. Usually questions that have been unanswered in the newbie mailing lists for a few days are posted here. Note that a large subset of the seasoned olbies are members of both lists. Also, flaming newbies that have been deemed posting lazy questions iis allowed, or they get a reminder to post their questions in the newbie list. It depends on the mood of the member who received the lazy post. :) 3) Send offtopic posts in the plug-misc list. Basically anything goes in this list but you still have to observe basic netiquette. Respect for one another is a mandatory requirement. :) 4) Send PLUG organization queries/postings in the plug-org posts. Seminars, conferences, etc. are usually discussed here. Finalized items are usually cross-posted to the newbie and main list but it is plain courtesy to ask questions about those seminars here. 5) Send all job postings on the linuxjobs mailing list. Job posters might target a wider seasoned linux audience by posting in the main/newbie list but you might also get on their bad side because they did not subscribe to be headhunted. Those seeking linux-related employment should also subscribe to the job mailing list. Basically that is it. I may have inserted some personal comments so I need to put a disclaimer that the items above are the unwritten rules of PLUG posting which have understood them. And before I forget, a good netiquette guide is also linked in http://plug.linux.org.ph/lists.html . ciao! -- "Programming, an artform that fights back" Anuerin G.
