Apologies for not being clear but this is what I was implying. Adding a
"SOLVED" keyword to the subject line and a brief summary of the solution
would be ideal.

Yup. Not only 'Thank You'(s) but also other personal comments (i.e 'me too').
But reality is that it's not easy to enforce this rules. The best way that I
can think of would be to tag the subject line with an 'OT' so Bob, master of
OT filters, can easily drop (or score down) those messages.
