it depends on the scenario. if there is only one kind of reply, then personally sending a thank you to the sender of the first received mail should be enough. The others who posted a similar answer will be smart enough to recognize duplicate efforts. And as Holden has pointed out, this is not a popularity contest so people should not expect to get a thanks in return for their efforst. Expressed (private or public) gratitude is only a bonus. :) Now in case there were a lot of different solutions provided, then I think a thank you addressed to the list is acceptable if the person remembers to snip unnecessary posts.
