Asterisk *is* a gatekeeper  :P

or GNUGk which i've been playing with. But it's H.323 and the
"interesting" (read: cheap) voip phones are all SIP. not to mention
STUN is easier with SIP than H.323 which afaik requires a  gatekeeper
proxy.
