Well, as far as I know, HPT and other cheap "RAID" controllers really
don't give you that good performance. Even if you use them in Windows.
:( Actually, these cards have the RAID part performed by the driver,
they just have a way so that it ca be transparent to the OS. I suggest
that you don't use the card's built-in hardware RAID and just use
software RAID. Or the alternative is that you should buy a real hardware
RAID card for ATA/SATA hard drives like 3ware Escalade.

Are we talking about RAID 0, or are we talking about RAID 1? Or should it really matter? :D I had been looking for suppliers of 3ware RAID controllers here in the Philippines for the past few weeks (months already) and have yet to find one who could readily quote me for them. However, they say that the nearest distributor/reseller of these 3ware cards are in Hong Kong -- which adds to the cost.

Jijo had to buy them 3ware escalade cards in Hong Kong -- that's what he told me personally.

I had expected a difference in performance between hardware and software raid after reading a myriad of articles on the net when it comes to comparisons between hardware and software RAID. But I wasn't prepared for a very very VERY big difference in favor of software RAID in terms of performance.

Thanks for the insights sir.
