i have read discussion that using a web-caching proxy for a single
unit is rather pointless since it would not gain any more speed
bonuses than the internal cache of the browser (unless your browser
does not have one :).

DNS information caching on the other hand is different. I use one at
home since i can't rely on the name servers of PT&T during the lucky
times that I can connect on their own dialup network. :(
