Yes, there is a certain speedup seen in DNS caching. I have pdnsd[1] pointing to several OSRC nameservers along with the `official' ones, so I could even browse cool sites like http://free.tibet . If you're wanting to do web caching on a single machine (to save you From saving browsed pages when you want to visit them offline) you can use wwwoffle[2]. It does automatic fetching too, so when you visit a site offline that's not in the cache, wwwoffle can get it for you when you're online.
