I have just upgraded my desktop from debian 9.x stretch to debian 10.0
buster. When I run apt update, I get this error message:

Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitMasked: Unit -.mount is
masked.

It appears to be related to packagekit. If I
remove /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/20packagekit, I do not get the error message.

Searching the net did not turn up anything useful.

How do I get rid of the error message?

"When we talk of civilization, we are too apt to limit the meaning of
the word to its mere embellishments, such as arts and sciences; but
the true distinction between it and barbarism is, that the one
presents a state of society under the protection of just and
well-administered law, and the other is left to the chance government
of brute force."
