Thanks for the pointer to the google forum. Ouch, for Google. I don't have google home, but this did coincide with a bunch of other google play apps. Hope they fix this soon. When I tap the cast icon to stop casting, it crashes google play services almost every time. Squeezebox still plays. I use it more than the chromecast. Unplugging it may be the thing to do.
