An easy way to test is to play a loudness war casualty like Flaming Lips "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" from At War With The Mystics and see if you can tell the difference in volume levels when Spotty volume normalisation is enabled or disabled. It should be noticeably quieter when enabled.
