It seems very likely to me that this is time related (or lack of) and if so it is perhaps a small flaw in pCP where if it is operated disconnected from LAN/WLAN it will never have a valid time (unless you add an RTC board).
Perhaps a small modification to pCP time settings where at initial setup you could write your own time setting i.e. "if my Pi can't get a valid time give it this one just so that things work" On the other hand one wonders why WWTT won't work with Epoch at boot - could it rather than the missing time itself be the lack of any timezone on which to calculate offset?
