Peterw's excellent Power Center plug-in already does this for X10 and Insteon automation devices. See http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BottleRocket.html for details. In my personal experience, using this plugin, I'd say that the integration with the SBC (duet remote) is done very well.
