I'm not suggesting the plugins are copied and hosted on another server - only a 
single repository file.

Surely you can count how many hits there are to the zip files?  It's only the 
repository file that indexes the location of the zips.

i.e. if you are counting hits to the repository file to determine how many 
people use your plugins, your stats will be wrong, because the repository will 
be hit by ED checking if there are updates (potentially many hits a day).  You 
better also hope that none of your plugins get nominated for inclusion as a 
Logitech recommended plugin, as they then get listed in a different repository 
on their server!
