Good grief, ditch the cassette deck! The RPi would be much more useful.
Have you any idea how small and inconspicuous the RPi is? Mine just
sits in a small black case in the tangle of wires hidden behind my PC
looking like just another "wall wart".

If you are getting a NUC anyway and are prepared to run it 24/7 then
that would be your most straightforward solution. I have a "backup"
version of LMS on my PC for the odd occasion when the NAS was down. It
ran as a service with an icon that sits in the notification area and was
quick and reliable. My PC is a large Intel i5 monster with three 2TB
hard drives and a hot graphics card - so consumes about 7 times the
power of the NAS. Not something I would want to leave switched on 24/7!

Just for comparison, my PC is about 100 watts, a NUC is about 28 watts,
my Synology is about 15 watts and the Raspberry Pi is 2 watts. So
although the NUC would use less electricity than one incandescent light
bulb, you could run 15 Raspberry Pi with the same power!
