You would not be changing the source code of LMS, just the start-up
script originally provided by Synology. Also, the change would be
completely transparent to anyone not using it. If the file does not
exist (or does not contain the relevant variable), nothing differs from
the status quo. It would simply open a door for advanced users to inject
their own command line options into their LMS installation.

As we are talking about a plain Bourne shell script, this does not
depend on system architecture at all.

I don't think forking the package would do anyone any good. I can patch
my own installation from the command line, it's just a hassle to do that
every time you update the LmsUpdate package.

If you were interested, I would be willing to have a look if one might
even provide a GUI via Synology's package mechanism, but since you
aren't willing to even consider a tiny patch for the start-up script, I
see no point. :(
