@Ugo: A port to Crypto++ would be a good idea! PoDoFo references OpenSSL only from within PdfEncrypt.cpp, as far as I can see. Are you able to do a port to Crypto++? Can you estimate how long that would take you to do? I could give you an SVN account for that task or you could submit patches - whatever you prefer.
