Hello Brine! You have spoke of your Uncle previously, and there is no doubt in my mind that he is a fine man!
Although I have no family relations that are Islamic, back about 20 years ago or so, I did have several acquaintances and colleagues who were Muslim. At that time, (I still didn't have my undergraduate degree and had not done the in depth study of Islam that I have done today, in the New Millennium) I thought that this man and his family were the epitome of hospitality, class, charm, good manners, grace, every nice adjective that I can think of. This was probably my first one-on-one, first hand experiences with Muslims. I can recall thinking that their morality, and way of life was similar if not downright identical to Christianity's morals and American's way of life. "Do unto others"; etc. This family would also be considered to have been "moderate" in their beliefs. I was very interested in their religion, their way of life, etc. I even stayed at one of my colleague's home for a good while, with his family, and came to the conclusion (as stated above) that even though these people were not Christian, they were in fact based with a moral compass very similar to Christian tenets and beliefs that we all grew up with here in the United States. My acquaintance with these individuals made me want to learn more about Islam, and I did study the religion and the history of Islam, to include Mohammad, the various sects of Islam; just about anything that I could get my hands on. Although I have not read the Qu'ran in it's entirety, I have read vast portions of it, which has been translated into English. The one thing that I am confident of and most sure of, is that these individuals that I speak of, and I believe (based on what I know of your Uncle) would be construed today as Infidels by those who devout fundamentalist Muslims, and those are the folks in various Nation-States who are "calling the shots" so to speak. One need only look at what took place in what was once known as Yugoslavia, and Albania; if you were to visit that region today; e.g.; Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Republica Srpska; and see the ethnic cleansing.....Not the ethnic cleansing purportedly by Slobodan Milosevic and the Serbs, but by fellow Muslims, those that are both Sunni and Shia. It was those Muslims who in fact killed those "Moderate" Muslims who have adopted what we perceive as a "moderate", western way of life. They are, "No More"..... It's my opinion that you are kidding yourself if you think that Islam is a "Religion of Peace"! It's not, and although you (and I) may know a number of "Good" moderate Muslims; in the eyes of those devout Muslims who now have dominion and control of Islam and their respective regions, they, (and "We") are all infidels deserving of a nasty belligerent death.
