Exactly. Why do we pigeon-hole people? I have 10 "Hispanic" grandchildren, according to government pigeon-holers. Three have a father from Guatemala and have an "Hispanic" name. One of those three looks like his father with black hair and brown eyes and brown skin. His brother has sandy hair, blue eyes and very light-brown skin. Their sister has brown hair, brown eyes and light-brown skin. They have not adopted the language of their father. These three, though only carrying 50% of their father's genes are listed as "Hispanic" not Anglo. I wonder how that makes the Anglo world feel to be rejected so easily? Moving on...another daughter married a man whose mother came from Mexico and whose father came from India. That would make him half "Hispanic" and half "Oriental" or do we refer to those kinds of people as "Sub-Cons" as they come from the subcontinent? :-) He has an East Indian surname and does not speak Spanish and his five children are light-brown skinned with black hair and brown eyes...pretty exotic kids let me tell you. They are 25% "Hispanic", 25% East Indian and 50% Anglo, but to the government they are "Hispanic". Finally another daughter marries a man from Chili and of course he speaks Spanish, but he also speaks German and English because his parents were from Germany and he arrived here when he was a teenager. He has a German surname and is blonde with blue eyes. His wife is blonde with green eyes and both of their daughters are blonde with blue eyes. And according to the government they are "Hispanic". If we check it out, we are all of African origin so that would make us all African-Americans, right? And the human comedy goes on.
