This is one weird article in the Chicago Tribune. It quotes a real-life
communist complaining about the “red baiting.” One might suppose that if you
call yourself a communist, you might be “read baited” just a bit.
Otherwise the article is pretty mixed up. It denies that Obama is a
socialist but says that socialism “involves espousing government control
over a country’s basic industries, like transportation, communication and
energy, while also allowing some government regulation of private
industries.”
By that standard, it would seem that that the entire political
establishment, which approves of government control and regulation over darn
near everything, is socialist.
