Kat buried her face in Alex's hair when Rachel told her to turn her head.
So she was spared seeing Mitchell's demise. Everything that happened after
that seemed to be very far off. She remembered riding with Alex tot he
hospital, or rather she knew that's how she got there, but she didn't really
remember the ride. She was consumed with worry about her mom, nick and
derek.

Alex was worried sick herself, but not in the same state of shock as the
little girl. She was so still and quiet that Alex was wondering if they
should get a doctor to take a look at her just in case. She was also
preoccupied with coming up with a feesible reason for why everyone was
coming in with all these injuries. It was hard to explain away some of
those things, but somehow she managed to do it. One of the library
bookselves fell over, it contained pottery and glass art objects, which
explained the cuts and bruises. It was a little harder trying to explain
away marks on Derek's neck, but she tried not to worry about that. She
could always hack into the hospital records later and make sure they were
changed. Now, that all the administrative stuff was done, paper work,
insurance and everything else they pu you through in the name of health
care, Alex was ready to see Derek. She first found out where Rachel was and
after making sure it was all right she took Kat into the room with her.

"Mommy," Kat cried hugging her mother fiercely. Ther little girl was still
extremely shaken and her skin was cool to the touch.

Alex watched the pair for a moment, slipping out once she knew they were
both all right and went looking for Derek. She peered into his room from
the hall. "Is it all right if i come in?"
