Hi,

Ping times seem OK to me, they are under 90ms, and jitter is less than
1ms.

The 4000ms is total time taken, for 5 packets, and is constrained by (1 sec
per ping) * (n-1) attempts.

My values are:
--- ntp1.inrim.it ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% packet loss, time 4005ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 394.250/430.628/491.200/39.994 ms

.. and I am synchronised to it, quite well.
