As mouss already told you, that does not mean it isn't chrooted. there are defaults. the default for chroot is YES.
yes, I know. something is broken there, but postfix resolves everything else through resolv.conf's nameserver 127.0.0.1 nsswitch.conf has "hosts: files dns"
Meaning $queue_directory/etc/hosts will be considered first. Fix it. -- J.
