I only wanted to point to the fact that if you have explicit aliases using domain.tld in your:
virtual_alias_maps = proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf then these will apply even if you delete the domain from:virtual_mailbox_maps = proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_mailbox_maps.cf
I am not a specialist, but I have faced this problem (although I'm using ldap lookups), so I know.
