The good reason to not use port 25 for local user submissions is that it allows you to separate traffic. While not critical, it's good practice and likely to make your life easier in the long run. As for 465 vs. 587, there's nothing preventing you from using both; many people do. And I never said to move Thunderbird to 465 (although that's OK too). I still suggest leaving SquirrelMail on 465 since it works and there aren't any good reasons to change; switch to 587 when you get a newer version of SM. Continue to use Thunderbird on 587, or with a few changes you can switch SquirrelMail also, but that's not really necessary. And don't get too caught up in the 465/deprecated vs. 587 stuff. There are no security implication, just standards. The reality is that most sites with more than a handful of remote users enable both protocols. Use whatever works best for your environment. -- Noel Jones
