F5 to refresh the desktop has never done the trick to get rid of the edges.
The only thing I've ever found was the restart of powerpro that cleared it
(on closing powerpro the screen does that double-refresh of desktop, and
that's when it clears). 

Could Powerpro be getting a display buffer in the video card/driver, and for
some reason that buffer is holding onto those ghost edges of windows? Maybe
there's a clear video buffer command?
