I personally have shadows disabled on my system and I always have, but
I have a feeling that these shadows are some sort of windows
themselves.

This would explain why they do not disappear with a refresh of the
desktop but it doesn't explain why PowerPro is having trouble handling
them, unless PowerPro is lumping them into a do not touch these when
switching desktops group, where windows like the taskbar and the
desktop view itself would reside.
