At $149 for Sonnett's G3/333, your PB 1400 can economically give good service for many years. I just ran a comparison of a 1400/117 vs a 1400/G3-217 and found that all CPU/FPU test results increased by at least 300% and even HD access inproved by almost 200%. I'm going to test the 1400/G3-333 later tonight to see how much faster it is compared to stock and the 217.
The only shortcomings with the 1400 are the low max RAM (64 Meg) and the inability to use the newer PCMCIA cards. (No USB/Firewire capabilities. 16 bit supplied, 32 bit required.) My biggest problem with my 1400s is the battery life. Not the use time per charge, as I can get an hour plus out of a good battery with the power hungry CD module installed. My problem is that the batteries refuse to hold a charge after 6 months or so of daily use. Even if I run the battery down to the low power warning and recharge fully (complete cylce) a battery has never lasted for even a year vs my old 230 Duo battery that lasted for several years. I don't know if that is normal for this battery or has something to do with the climate here in the desert, where a PB can be in air conditioning or 120 degree heat several times in an hour.
