QT 5 and OS 8.6 have several known issues.  Stuttering on audio 
playback (MP3 for me) and jpeg "corruption" if you install QT 5.x and 
don't notice the "Quicktime JPG update" extension going into your 
extensions folder (it just mangles things).

Posts in the archives talk about this; Sonnet and others have blurbs 
about this.

It's not just G3 accel. 1400's that demonstrate it, my 4400 OS 8.6 
was eating all the jpgs uploaded onto my ftp server until I realized 
I'd put QT5 on it.

QT4 should be safe though.
