I run OS 9.1 on a 3400/240 with 144MB RAM. It's not noticably slower 
than OS 8.6 if at all but definitely takes a wad more RAM.
A little care with what control panels and extensions you load will 
pay off if you need to be spare with RAM, otherwise, by all means 
migrate to OS 9.1.
