There is no problem, legally speaking, with what he did. He exercised his
rights as he is given them, as all of us here in the USA do. The main
problem is the logic of his arguments and his supposed why. He seems to
think the world needs to conform exactly to his thoughts and wants. If I go
to a website that has something I disagree with or dislike to the point it
affects the usage of the site, I go somewhere else. Even when I do disagree
with an article on LEM, it doesn't affect my usage of the rest of the site
and isn't presented inch a way as to impugn the rest of the site. Following
Bauer's logic, I should write to the companies selling new Mac hardware and
warn them that LEM is suggesting ways to keep old hardware going, which
might offend me and others who sell new Mac harrdware, and suggest they
stop. Okay, bit of a stretch, but work with me here :)

And indeed they shouldn't. It's entirely within a company's right not to
support LEM if they don't want to. However, one can still be annoyed with a
company for pulling out only after someone ranted at them. Theoretically a
company should be aware of what they're advertising on, and if they
disagree with something posted they should pull out then - not after one
guy writes to them about it. It makes it appear as though they're pulling
out because of the complaint, not because they disagree with the content.
If they do indeed disagree with the content, then they should and are fully
in their rights to pull out. And it's fully in the rights of the website
and its members boycott/express displeasure with the company for doing that.

The violence against Muslims is a problem with people and their
self-control, not people who write articles. Nowhere in Moore's articles do
I see him inciting any violence against Muslims. Blaming Moore for the
violence is like blaming guns for gun violence rather than their users.

Well, that's your prerogative. No one is forcing you not to shop at the
places that pulled out. It wouldn't be a free speech issue anyway unless
this guy were going to the US government to try to shut down LEM as hate
speech or something. The whole "Free Speech" thing is entirely for the
government; private organizations can limit speech all they want more or
less (overly simplifying it of course, but you get my point). I've found
that in this world, sometimes you have to work with people and groups you
don't agree with 100%. I don't write to supporters and advertisers of
everything I slightly disagree with in an attempt to change the sites; I
find a site I agree with more.

Having said all that, it might now be a bad idea to set up a separate site,
or at least a separate section on LEM, for philosophy and such. Protect the
over-sensitive people like Bauer who just want nice, sterile discussion of
Macintoshes without a bit of opinion.

My thought: The battery isn't quite putting out the peak power it used to,
so running the CD-ROM is draining it faster. Time for a new/rebuilt battery
perhaps? Or does the 1400 have a conditioning program?

And that's all I have to say on that.
