There's nothing contradictory at all if everyone would just read ALL the
available material (not just the websites cited in this thread, but also
searching on this list's archives, since this topic seems to come up
monthly).

a) the PC Card *circuitry* in the 3400 IS CardBus-compliant.

b) the 3400's card *cage*, i.e., the physical mechanism that accepts/ejects
the cards, is NOT compliant, but is very nearly compliant. The ONLY things
the MCE upgrade provide (AFAIK) are the proper 'keying' to accept CardBus
cards, and some electromagnetic shielding to reduce the chance of two high
bandwidth cards interfering with one another.

So, if you either find that the particular USB card you're interested in can
be made to fit out of the box (that is, some of us were able to coax the
card to 'force fit'), or if you do a little whittling to reshape the keyed
part of the connector on the card, the card should work.

Also, a fair number on this list have found that even FireWire cards work,
so MCE's EMI shielding is definitely NOT mandatory.

Bottom line, the 3400 is CardBus-compliant with the footnote that manually
reshaping the connector is highly recommended.

Hope that clears everything up. (For this month... ;-) )
