PC-Cards..?

If you modify the card cage, then the Kanga will physically accept a PCMCIA card, which is a prereqisite for accepting a USB or Firewire card.

The Kanga will take PCMCIA (AKA PC Card) cards already. It can be modified to take CardBUS cards such as USB and Firewire cards. It's been said by others that there are software "issues" with these cards, things like crashes if you try to start or shutdown with the card in place.
