I have a PowerBase with a NewerTech G3 card. I used CD-ROM toolkit back with
OS 8.1 and earlier without problems. Now with OS 9 most things worked but I
have had various anomalies and so I got rid of CD-ROM Toolkit by modifying
the latest Apple CD/DVD driver per the instructions on the web and have had
no problems since. At first I did the modification a little bit wrong and it
didn't work so be sure you close ResEdit and then re-open and check that you
indeed made the mods correctly. Hope this helps.
