Hi Folks,

Hi Mary,

Yesterday I install installed 8.6 on a friends
Power Center Pro 604e/210 . He bought the computer new
with 7.6.1 installed.

I booted from an 8.6 CD and started a "clean install";
the installation stopped early into the process and I was informed that it
couldn't
be installed on a drive not supported by Apple. . . or words to that effect.

Observing that the "continue" button was still active,
I clicked continue and the install surprised me and ran its course.
It seems to be functioning O.K. . . but I'm getting a little apprehensive.

I opened his new OS 8.6 Drive Setup wondering if I could "update" the Disk
and got this message:
"cannot modify a disk in an unsupported drive".

I see that he has a drive supported (if that's the right terminology)
by FWB and the Toolkit is there in its folder.
So I assume this means that FWB sets up a drive very differently
to what Apple's Drive Setup would?

I haven't heard too much good about the FWB Setup on the PCI list
(which I'm not subscribed to at present) but the FWB Toolkit driving
my CD-ROM connected to my old Centris never failed me - although it
would pop up inconsequential-type messages when inserting a CD??

Should the OS 8.6 be fine regardless of the Disk Driver - again,
is that the right terminology/understanding?
Do I "update" with FWB in a similar fashion as one would update with
Drive Setup? (should I?)

Thanks,
Terry
