Does the answer to the last question really matter? Surely dual-processor CPUs
are symmetrical? Unlike "extra CPUs" created by hyperthreading... What I mean
is (ignoring hyperthreading) if you have a dual-core CPU this behaves just
like a SMP capable mobo with 2 identical CPUs fitted. Except possibly for
licensing issues on those products where you pay extra per CPU - but that's
nothing to do with software architecture or performance.

For the purposes of Prime testing, dual-core processors behave exactly like an SMP mobo with 2 CPUs fitted, however you only get half as much memory bus bandwidth for each CPU, compared with a proper SMP mobo, so for "real-world" compute-intensive applications performance can take a substantial hammering. I've seen figures of over 50% idle on the second core of a dual-core processor.
