THE WEEKEND NEWSLETTER
AMERICA'S NEWSCHANNEL MSNBC
Saturday November 9, 2002- Sunday November 10, 2002

Hello everyone. We have two great premieres to call to your attention for
this weekend. First, at 8PM SUNDAY, it's NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORER: RAISING THE
USS MONITOR. Despite great hopes for this Civil War ship, the Monitor survived for
less than a year on its maiden voyage. The ship eventually sank, as a result of a
fierce storm, not battle, and took 16 sailors with it to the bottom of the Atlantic.
Nearly 140 years later, NatGeo Explorer joins U.S. Navy Commander Bobbie Scholley and
a handful of scientists as they embark on a mission to recover the historic vessel's
gun turret.
Then, stick with us at 10pm ET when we roll out our MSNBC SPECIAL: ISLAM IN
AMERICA: FAITH UNDER FIRE. See how Muslim Americans are defending themselves and
their religion as a result of radical fanaticism that became more evident after
September 11.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9

HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: HILLARY CLINTON
As wife of the president, she broke the traditional mold of First Lady. Hillary
Clinton was the first working mother in the White House, the first to lead a major,
cabinet-level policy committee and the first to become a United States senator. She
may have surprised the country, but not her friends. Since early childhood she has
been singled out as the girl most likely to succeed.

7AM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: JACKIE ONASSIS
Jaqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was an introverted child who grew up to capture the
world's imagination and become an American legend. Famous for closely guarding her
privacy, she always remained a bit of a mystery. More than an attractive political
wife, she had a sharp wit, strong sense of duty as a mother and courage under the most
trying conditions. This is the story of one of the most beloved and fascinating women
of our time.

12PM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: JOHN TRAVOLTA
John Travolta has made one of the biggest comebacks in Hollywood history. The kid from

he all but disappeared with a string of failures. From the beginning, though, the
charisma and sex appeal of John Travolta could never be denied.

1PM ET
HEADLINERS & LEGENDS: SYLVESTER STALLONE
Sylvester Stallone is one of the hottest stars in Hollywood, commanding more than $20

the screenplay and choreographed every punch he threw. In this hour, how fierce
determination turned a scrawny boy into Hollywood's toughest action star.

2PM ET

about to take out his anger on people he doesn't even know. He then goes to a nearby
McDonald's where a woman is buying a Happy Meal for her child and opens fire, killing
three people, including himself. Many more are injured. We always ask the same
question when we hear someone has gone on a rampage killing: "why?" Well, this man,
in a chilling recording, tells all.
John Seigenthaler hosts.

9PM ET
MSNBC INVESTIGATES: OUT FOR REVENGE
Each year, about 100 people are violently and fatally assaulted by enraged co-workers.
Mark Barton's killing spree came just days after he lost a huge sum of money trading
stocks. But when you look into his background you find that he was not simply taking
out his anger over a bad business deal when he killed nine co-workers and critically
injured 13 others at two Atlanta companies. After he killed himself, police found he
had murdered his wife and two children... and that his emotional instability might
even link him to the death of his first wife and her mother. In this documentary,
survivors will tell of the hell they lived through and investigators help us dig deep
into this troubled man's past. It's the evidence, the pictures, you haven't seen
before.
John Seigenthaler hosts.

10PM ET

second largest manhunt, and one of the longest standoffs in American history. Before
he was stopped he murdered four people. And his rampage had exposed a history of
abusing women.
