That's because the PPD file defaults to 'Letter' paper
size (rant rant). Setting the 'lpadmin -o media=Ax'
for the q should fix that.

What is the contents type if the file; if its not
postscript the print system filters have probably
tried to convert it to ps and then printed the result
of that conversion.

You probably need to make the q handle raw data, but
then I'm no sure it will work through foomatics so it
wouldn't handle the media option, etc (Norm?).

Other sorts of data, text, ps, jpeg, etc, should work
okay though.
