The University of Keele holds millions of aerial photographs, negatives and
prints, from the war years. They have developed special techniques and
equipment for scanning large size negs, prints and photomosaics often in
poor condition (boxes and boxes are stored in a damp basement!). They need
to extract sufficient detail to make it possible for experts to find bomb
craters which may still contain live ammunition and be a hazard to modern
construction.

They have refined their technique and equipment and may now offer a
specialised scanning service to outside clients. At any rate they are
friendly and knowledgeable and passionate about preserving items of heritage
and I am sure they would offer advice, ring me if interested in a contact
name & number.
