Hi Richard. You cannot calibrate it with Epsons software so you need a third
party device. Silverfast can be bought with IT8 software and a calibration
target which can be a slide or a print depending on your needs. Basically
you scan the target which the measures the values it scans against a
reference set of values that describe your target. The scanners
characteristics are then changed to match the reference values. That then
becomes your scanners profile and gets rid of the magenta cast that I
suspect you've got. Mine did.
You don't have to have Silverfast to calibrate though. I would contact Neil
Barstow on that front. I do like Silverfast but its more than some people
want or need.
Have a look at Vuescan from Hamrick. Its $40 I think. I don't know if you
can calibrate with it though.
