[PRODIG] OT sorting files in Number order in OSX

Working in OS9 I could select a directory of file numbers in a window 
and copy it into a word processor and they would stay in number order. 
In OSX the numbers will not transfer in any kind of logical sequence. 
The same thing happens if I drag a selection of file numbers into PS, 
they don't stay in number order. Can I do this in OSX?
