I assure you the differences we have seen have not been small. More important, they
are the differences that we deal with in our tech support so they are differences that
our customers notice.

It is not as simple to say that it is mediocre. The Eye-One Photo/Match is a great
combination of instrument and software (probably the best in its price range). That
does not mean that it does not fail in some circumstances. No instrument / software
combination is failsafe. The tools I referred to in my last email have more
configuration options that allow them to work well in the instances where less
expensive tools can fail. GretagMacbeth will be the first to say that there are
quality and configuration differences between their products. I want to illustrate to
people that there are significant advantages to other tools.

If you want another analogy, think of automatic cameras. Are they crap? no. Can you
get good pictures from them? yes, sometimes great. Are they used by Pros? not
typically. Why? because pro-level cameras offer more configuration options that allow
you to override the camera when it focuses, exposes, etc incorrectly. They can also
offer a noticeable difference in quality. Do you have to pay more for them? yes. If
you hire a pro photographer would you want them to use pro-level equipment?.... I
suspect most would.

when you buy an automatic camera do they list all of its limitations? We do our best
to ensure that we have clear, meaningful information on our site. We are also working
to add comparison features as we go along.

I think you are totally overreacting to my previous posts. I have never specifically
called you or your company out nor have I been commenting on your services directly.
What I do know is how color management works, from the physics to the perceptual
sciences to the technical application by the ICC. That is the information I have been
presenting to this list. You, for some reason, have taken my technical information as
personal attacks.

interesting plan. I guess you could defer a lot of your technical support this way. I
am very familiar with this group of people and they definitely know their stuff. Not
sure how they can support your profiles though.

Here I thought that's what you were offering... Perhaps I misunderstood. My main point
was that profiling is a SERVICE. Technical support offered with a service IS
consulting. That is my very point. Thanks for clearing up yours.

Regards,

Steve
